Training Assignments with Eduction Providers

In cooperation with Education Providers, we regularly conduct 4-week training courses on the topics of „Building Information Modeling” and „Autodesk Revit.”

The courses are delivered as full-day online training sessions using the software „alfaview,” provided by alfatraining. The number of participants varies between 15 and 25, and includes all experience levels—from trained engineers and architects to complete beginners. Course surveys show that architects in particular are interested in BIM training in order to add this valuable knowledge to their professional profile. Participants join either through independent recruitment or via „Kursnet,” the official course platform of the German Federal Employment Agency. A course is held as soon as 15 participants are registered.

"BIM Modeler with Revit" with alfatraining Bildungszentrum GmbH:

This 4-week course is structured into three main parts: “BIM Introduction and Software Basics,” “BIM Modeling,” and finally, the independent “Project Work.”

The course begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Key questions are addressed, such as:

  • What is BIM?
  • Where does it originate from?
  • What is openBIM vs. closedBIM?
  • What are IFC and BCF?
  • What are BIM roles?
  • Who is buildingSMART?
  • What is a CDE?

We also dive into technical details such as the structure of IFC and show where official IFC standard sets can be found and referenced.

After the theoretical part, participants are introduced to software tools and begin working with the CDE platform „BIMplus” by Allplan and carry out model merging tasks using Solibri.

From the second week onward, participants begin active modeling in Revit, continuing with structured BIM model development based on the ISO 19650 standard. Various BIM tasks and functions are implemented step by step. We cover in detail:

  • How to export and manage IFC in Revit
  • How to create and standardize Psets
  • In-depth parameter creation and management in Revit
  • Differences between Revit properties and IFC properties
  • Creating and editing Revit families
  • Creating BCFs
  • Conducting model checks, and much more

In addition to the architectural model, participants also create discipline-specific IFC models and perform automated model checks using rule sets in Solibri. Therefore, the role of a BIM Modeler is not limited to Revit, but includes working with additional essential software tools such as the CDE “BIMplus” and the model checker Solibri—which are vital in the daily tasks of a discipline-specific BIM modeler.

In the final week, participants are required to complete an independent project, where they individually model and demonstrate their understanding and ability to apply what they have learned. This is a compact implementation of the content from the previous three weeks, consisting of three project parts: “Developing a BIM Architecture Model”, “Creating a Discipline Model” and “BIM Tasks”

Upon successful completion, each participant receives a certificate of participation, which serves as official proof of their BIM modeling capabilities.
